Confession is a love feature in Tomodachi Collection, and Tomodachi Life. If a Mii develops feelings for another Mii of the opposite gender, he/she can confess their love to them and if it goes well, they could establish a Sweetheart relationship.

Getting ready to confess

When a Mii wants to confess to another Mii, they will be seen worried with gentle bell music playing. Upon tapping their thought bubble, the Mii will tell the player they have feelings for a randomly chosen Mii of the opposite gender, the player can choose to help him/her out. If the player chooses to help them out, the Mii will first ask the player how to confess his/her love:

Then, they will ask the player where to tell the confession, which can be:

At the beach
On the tower
At school
At the park
In the concert hall
At the café

The Café and Park will be unlocked after the first confession.

Finally, the Mii will ask if they need to change clothes before getting ready to confess. After replying either option, the Mii says it's ready and will go to confess.

If the player tells the Mii not to confess, the Mii will look shocked, and ask why not. The player can say either "Bad match/It's not right," "You're crazy," "[He's/She's] taken," or "It's too soon." The Mii will acknowledge what the player said and will result in instant Sadness. Tapping its thought bubble will have it say "I guess I'm just not good enough..." the first time, and "My confidence is at an all-time low." the second time. Once cheered up, there is a chance that the Mii may want to confess again in the future, even if they were told that their target is "already taken".

Other ways

Alternatively, a Mii can question if a certain Mii likes them. Unlike the love confession, they will not be seen worried when overlooking them, nor does the jingly music play when entering their apartment; instead the regular problem music plays. When tapping their thought bubble, the Mii says "I think [Mii] likes me. What do you think?" The player can choose either "I think so too!", "It won't work" or "In your dreams", or the player can say "Go for it!" to have the Mii do an automatic confession to the chosen Mii. The Mii says, "Okay, I'll give [him/her] a chance.", then will proceed to confessing the other Mii. The location will be chosen randomly and the confessor will automatically "Be showy" to the other Mii. Like a normal confession, the confessed Mii will accept or reject the confessor, retaining the same consequences as a normal confession would. In this particular confession though, no other Miis can interrupt the confession. If the Mii was rejected, it will say "It's not like I even like him/her that much anyway..." following the "Things didn't go so well..." text. Sometimes, if the player chooses "Go for it!", the Mii will say, "I don't feel the same way, so whatever!" However, the Mii will only 'Not feel the same way' if they have a low relationship status with the second Mii.

Rarely, a Mii will say that he/she has feelings for two different Miis; they'll say, "I'm interested in both [Mii 1] and [Mii 2]... Who should I confess my feelings to?", and the player will pick which Mii he/she should confess to, or tell him/her to "Think on it more", since there is no option to confess to neither of them. They will say "I suppose you're right. I'll think it over a while longer.", but they will not gain sadness.

Confessing

The Mii will wait at its chosen location, as a slow heartbeat plays in the background. The Mii's crush will show up, and the Mii will perform asked action. After the Mii confesses to the other Mii, the other Mii can either nod and say "Sure!", and establish a relationship, or reject the confessor by saying in a echo voice "I'm sorry...". When the crush agrees, the confessed Mii will dance and jump happily in their apartment afterward, as celebratory music plays (differs depending on the gender) and fireworks go off, and the captions say, "It went like a dream!". But if the crush rejects, the Mii will sink to the ground sadly as sad violin music plays, and the captions say "Things didn't go so well..." as the Mii becomes depressed.

The Mii's excited animation upon their love interest agreeing to the confession is different depending on their personality:

Easygoing: Pumps fists in achievement.
Outgoing: Spins around. (dances excitedly in its seat if at the cafe)
Independent: Puts hands to its face in surprise and leans forward.
Confident: Shrugs happily.

Rejection

Should the Mii get rejected, he or she will gain an immense amount of sadness and a decrease in the friendship level with the confessed Mii. When its thought bubble is tapped, it says, "I was rejected. Ouch...". Tapping it a second time will have it say "Sigh...". Rarely, a confessed Mii will say "Sure", and then the other Mii that he/she was confessed to will be depressed. A long flashback will come.

If the Mii being confessed to is not friendly enough to the confessor, that Mii may never show up, which counts as a rejection. If the Mii is already in a relationship, their significant other might appear to tell the confessing Mii that the two of them are together.

Second try

When a Mii is sad as a result of a rejection, the Mii sometimes will feel determined and try again. The location will always be the beach and they will always give a present. What the Mii says following this depends on their personality:

Easygoing: "It would be really cool if we started dating. I'm just saying. No pressure though."
Outgoing: "I really think we'd be perfect together. You should definitely go out with me."
Independent: "I went and got the [Food/Item] you wanted. Wanna go out with me now?"
Confident: "All the oceans of the world can't contain my love for you! Please be my sweetheart."

Like a normal confession, the confessed Mii will accept or reject the confessor. However, when rejecting the confessor, the confessed Mii says in an echo voice "Sorry, but I'm just not interested..." instead or a friend of the other Mii will tell the confessor that the other Mii isn't interested or that the sweetheart of the other Mii says "[Mii] and I going out now. I hope you're cool with that.". Depending on the result if rejected again, the Mii will either have all sadness removed (the crush isn't interested), or gain even more sadness (the crush never shows up, or one of its friends will appear to say they're not interested or their date appears to say they're currently dating).

If the Mii's crush still refuses to accept their love, the onscreen text will say "That turned out horribly.", and the Mii will say "I'm finally able to let go.", and it loses all sadness. But if the crush didn't show up, one of its friends says they're not interested in going out, or its current date explains they're going out now, the captions say "Things couldn't have gone worse." and the Mii gains even more sadness. Upon tapping their thought bubble, they will say "I guess it's time to move on with my life...".

Intervention

If the Mii being confessed to has strong bonds with multiple friends of opposite gender, there is a chance that one, or even two, other Mii(s) will interrupt the confession and try to steal him or her away. The rivaling Miis will shout "Wait!", in the European/Australian version, saying "Just a minute!", pop up in extremely hilarious ways (such as from the ocean, the locker, and the table near the confession), and confess their love to the same Mii. The confessed Mii will then have to choose between the two or three friends. When it makes its decision, it turns toward one of them and says, "[Mii], I'm so glad you feel the same.", while the rejected Mii(s) hang their heads, sometimes fainting. If the confessed Mii chooses the first confessor, they automatically go into a relationship just like normal. There is, however, also a chance that the Mii can reject them all, by saying in an echo voice "I'm sorry, but [neither/none] of you...", leaving all the Miis to either hang their heads or faint. No matter the outcome, only the first confessor can get depressed if he or she was rejected. Rivaling Miis do not gain sadness when rejected.

If the confessed Mii chooses one of the other Miis that interrupted the confession, the player has to decide if the two should establish a relationship, while the other one or two will walk away from the place (for example, on the stairs and shown in the window). The Mii's chosen sweetheart will ask, "So, what do you think about us becoming sweethearts?". If the player chooses "Love it!", they will look over at each other lovingly and begin a relationship; if the player chooses "Bad idea", their faces will change from happy expressions to shocked ones and will sometimes faint, and the relationship is off.

Set Up

Sometimes, a friend of two Miis who have the opposite gender together might try to set up a relationship between the two. Unlike the love confession, they will have the orange friendship icon on their apartment window for set up requests. Upon tapping their thought bubble, the Mii will say "I think [Male Mii] needs a sweetheart/special someone.... How about setting him up with [Female Mii]?" The player can say yes, no, or have the Mii choose a different partner to set up with. But, you can only choose one of the Miis who are available, mostly those whom both asking Mii is friends with, and is not dating anyone.

Once the player said yes or selected a different partner, a strip of scenes will ensue. The first scene is at the train station where the two Miis happily chat together or look around while waiting for a train. The other friend watches the two Miis through a newspaper with an eyehole in it.

The second scene is at the amusement park. The two Miis will be together riding the merry-go-round, sometimes talking, with the other friend watching them in a bear suit and trying to give out balloons to cover up their spying. They will turn to look at them when the other two Miis are across the merry-go-round from them and continue to wave at others when they can see him/her.

The third scene is at the Café. The two Miis will talk to each other or stare out the window and drink coffee while the other friend peeks through the window.

The final scene is the outcome at the fountain. The Miis will be walking together on the way home, the friend Mii watching them from the fountain. They stop at the fountain and say their final words before parting. If the setup worked, the male Mii will dance and say "I had the best time today!" and the female Mii will wink and say "Me too! Let's hang out again soon." The friend Mii will give a sign of achievement and the two Miis will immediately become sweethearts afterward, without any pink problems indicating requests for a love confession. The friend Mii then says "My little plan worked!" later on, and gains XP. If the setup failed however, the two will just think of the experience as a normal day out. The male Mii will say "Thanks for hanging out today." and the female Mii will say "Thank you too." Then, the two Miis will walk away and the friend Mii will look on sadly. The two Miis remain friends or acquaintances with each other if they have not done so. There is a chance the Mii will want to set them up again in the future.

Should the set up fail, the friend Mii might say "They didn't hit it off so great...". Afterwards, one of the Miis will question why would the friend set him or her up with the other Mii. The player can say "Perfect match!", "For a joke?" or "I don't know...". If answered with "Perfect match!", the Mii may boost their friendship level with that other Mii. If the friend Mii said "They're just going to be friends for now.", this will not happen, but the Mii will still gain XP.

The player can know if the setup will work or fail by a few signs, such as the Miis talking to each other often instead of staring out into the distance or if the Miis look very happy at the fountain.

Trivia

The "likeness" problem is the only love problem where the music doesn't change upon entering the Mii's apartment.
There is an error in the girl-to-boy confession at the tower. The girl says, "Oh, won't you be my boo?" when really, a boyfriend is a beau. A girlfriend is a boo.
There is a rare moment in the date cutscenes; the Miis talk to each other in all three scenes as if the setup will work, but at the fountain they walk normally as it failed.
There is a much higher chance of rejection if the Mii isn't being traditional.
The confession is almost guaranteed to fail if the confessed Mii is currently dating another Mii.
